Cruise Etiquette

Celebrity Cruise Lines Matci Carpet
We have all been on a cruise and seen people who seem to forget their cruise etiquette. Here are a few tips so you don’t become the one everyone is talking about at dinner.
Elevators
Wait for others to exit the elevator before stepping on. Also, if there are seniors or disabled passengers waiting, allow them to board first and simply wait for the next one if necessary.

Deck Chairs
I am usually up with the sun on my cruises, and there are always chairs with towels and other belongings sitting on them. Please don’t leave your items on a chair if you don’t plan to use it for hours. Other guests would like to enjoy the space too.

Speakerphones and Bluetooth Speakers
This has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. If you are listening to music or talking on your phone, please use headphones or take the call in your stateroom. It’s simply common courtesy.

Be On Time
I often see guests arrive at dinner 30 minutes or more after it starts. Remember, the dining staff has a schedule to keep. Arriving late throws off their timing and can make things awkward for the people already seated at your table.

Be Respectful to the Crew
As I walk around the ship, I try to say good morning or hello to the crew members. They are working hard to make your cruise experience fantastic, and a little kindness goes a long way.

Food at the Buffet
When visiting the buffet, it’s easy to want to try everything. Instead, take small portions at first. If you like something, you can always go back for more. This helps prevent unnecessary food waste.

Cups and Dishes
Please don’t leave cups and plates in the elevator, on the stairs, or on deck chairs. Take them to a nearby bar or hand them to a crew member if possible. No one enjoys stepping into an elevator and finding a plate with half-eaten pizza in the corner.

These are just a few tips for being courteous on your next cruise. Do you have a cruise etiquette tip to share? I’d love to hear it—send me an email with your suggestions!

I have a passion for travel and believe travel is about experiences. Experiences create memories and are the stories we tell to friends and family - even with a little fudging on the facts.
So let me create a vacation you can brag about!
