What better way to celebrate Thirsty Thursday than with a blog about great cruise drinks. For those who are experienced cruisers, you have that go to drink when you cruise. Don’t worry first time cruisers, you will too. Here are 3 of the more popular drinks.
Cucumber Sunrise. – Carnival Cruise Line
The Cucumber Sunrise is available at the Alchemy bar. It contains muddled cucumber, orange juice and more. This is a drink I have had and will get again. It was refreshing and really good which surprised me because I was having trouble getting past cucumber. By the way, the Alchemy Bar is one of my favorite bars on Carnival. Recipe
Drop the cucumber wheels into an empty pint glass (or cocktail shaker). Muddle those wheels. Add the rest of the ingredients. Add ice, then cover it to prepare for shaking. Shake it for five seconds — no more, no less… unless you really feel like it — then strain into a chilled glass. (Double-strain if possible — first strain through the regular strainer, then a fine strainer.) serve with a cucumber wheel on the glass
Cocoa Loco – Royal Caribbean
Available at most bars on Royal Caribbean ships is the Cocoa Loco. This drink is inspired by RCCLs private island, Cocoa Cay. It is quite loaded so might want to nurse this one. Loaded with cocoanut rum and dark rum, it might have a kick. Recipe
The Isaac – Princess Cruise Line
Actor Ted Lange played the lovable bartender Isaac Washing on the Love Boat and to celebrate 50 years, Princess asked him to come on board and create a drink. Something I did not know, when he started the show, he was a certified mixologist. The base for this is white rum, pomegranate and ice. Check out the recipe below. Recipe
Start by simply pouring the rum, syrup and juice over ice in shaker. hen strain over fresh ice in tall glass and top with club soda. Garnish with lime slices and, for an unexpected twist, two pineapple leaves. According to Lange, the leave respresent his signature move over pointing with both fingers and smiling.
There of course are so many more great cruise drinks. Let me know what your favorite is on twitter. Also, coming soon will be a blog post and podcast episode on drink packages available on Carnival, Royal Caribbean NCL and Princess so look out for that.
