Recently I cam across a destination I am adding to my bucket list, Antelope Canyon in Arizona. I was looking through Instagram and saw this amazing formation and thought how incredible would that be to see in person.
Antelope Canyon is located northeast of the Grand Canyon and about 280 miles East of Las Vegas but only 8 miles from Page Arizona. To enter the canyon, you are required to be on a guided tour so something to consider when visiting the park.
Flood rains and wind have carved out the red sandstone over thousands of years creating this slot canyon. Its divided into the Upper Canyon also know by the Navaho as Tsé’bighanilí and the Lower Canyon known by the Navaho as Hasdestwazi. Each part has its highlights and can be visited with a tour guide. For hiking and seclusion, the Lower Canyon is where you want to go. If you want photos of the famous light beams, you will want to visit the Upper Canyon. This would be a fantastic destination for the avid photographer, adventurer or someone that just admires the natural wonders of our planet.
Tours are available from Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Sedona and Lake Powel in Page Arizona. Page Arizona is the closest town to the canyon and has accommodations ranging from three and four star hotels to ArB&Bs. For more information on tours, check out Viator for great options.
