On Monday John Heald of Carnival made a couple of announcements regarding prices that ruffled the feathers of the Carnival community. Room Service will no longer be free and there is an increase in the cost of the Bottomless Bubbles Drink Package.
Lets talk about the drink package first. The increase is $1 per day bringing prices to $5.95 Per Day for kids and $8.50 Per Day for adults. And of course, plus gratuity. If you are familiar with the Bottomless Bubbles Drink Package, it includes unlimited soda, sports drinks and juices. But does not include bottled water, specialty coffee or orders made through room service. More details can be found on the Carnival Website.
Let’s talk room service. The big announcement is that other than continental breakfast in the morning, room service will no longer be complimentary. In mid-January they will launch an Ala Carte Menu with items priced from $2-$5 per item. This will still be available 24 hours just for a nominal fee. Now continental breakfast, where you complete the form and hang it outside your door, will remain complimentary. So you will still be able to enjoy your Danish and coffee on your balcony or in bed. Up until now, there were free and pay items on the menu and they charged for room service ordered after 10:00 PM.
The reason for the change, according to Carnival, is to help prevent waste and they are coming on par with other cruise lines like RCCL and NCL. Some cruise lines charge a service charge each time you order so a charge for room service is not unusual.
Below I have posted the new menu for your review.
So if you have a sailing coming up, be sure to check the menu before you order.
