Carnival Cruise Line Update
By Mike Miller

As most of you may know, the cruise lines suspended global operations on March 13th of this year due to the Pandemic of COVID 19. So for 2 months now, the cruise ships have been mostly empty with a few exceptions of crew and some ships still having passengers. But the time has come, to plan the return to operations and Carnival Cruise Line has really given the most definitive plan, at least to me.

Carnival is taking a more staggered approach to their return. Due in part to the continued closure of cruise ports but also wanting to take it slow.

They will start on August 1st with only 8 ships of its 25 sailing from 3 ports. I would imagine this will be to allow for new health protocols to be put in place and tested prior to bringing the entire fleet on line. Embarkation will be different for sure and with the only one or maybe 2 ships in port at a time, that will make it easier on the passengers as well as shoreside staff and crew.

To begin, all sailings will are cancelled through at July 31st, 2020. They will begin operations with the below schedule.
Miami
Miami
  • Carnival Horizon
  • Carnival Sensation
  • Carnival Magic
Port Canaveral, FL

  • Carnival Breeze
  • Carnival Elation
Galveston, TX
  • Carnival Vista
  • Carnival Freedom
  • Carnival Dream

As I mentioned before, there are ports that are some embarkation ports that are closed and will not open until late in the summer. Because of this, some itineraries have been cancelled.

Cancelled for 2020
All Alaska Sailings
All San Francisco Sailings

Later Returns to Operations
Carnival Sunrise     Cancelled through October 19th, 2020
Carnival Radiance  Cancelled through November 1st, 2020
Carnival Legend      Cancelled Alaska 2020/ Hawaii & Trans Pacific through October 6, 2020
Carnival Spirit          Cancelled Alaska 2020 / Hawaii & Trans Pacific through October 6th, 2020
All other ships            Cancelled through August 31st, 2020

Carnival has been providing full refunds to those who wanted it or a Future Cruise Credit with an onboard credit. For a situation which no one would have expected or even thought to prepare for, the cruise lines, including Carnival have done a fantastic job.

As of today, May 13th, this is the current plan but of course its subject to change. Personally, I will be one of the first to cruise again on August 1st on the Breeze. I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

If you need additional information or want to see the official announcement, check out the Health Update on Carnival.com or you can always reach out to me for information.

I have a passion for travel and believe travel is about experiences. Experiences create memories and are the stories we tell to friends and family - even with a little fudging on the facts.
So let me create a vacation you can brag about!
