Today the Carnival Horizon sailed away from the Fincantieri Shipyard in Marghera, Italy on its way to Barcelona Spain. The second of the Vista Class ships from Carnival will board passengers for the first time and sail its inaugural cruise through the Mediterranean on April 2nd. As I said, this is the second of the Vista Class Ships from Carnival so you will find the majority of the ship is similar. The SkyRide and Havana Area unique to the Vista Class and the staples like Bonsai Sushi, Guys Pig & Anchor, Guys Burgers, Alchemy Bar and more. But the Horizon will have some new and exciting features. A third Guy Ferretti venue is being added with the Guys Pig and Anchor Smokehouse/Brewhouse. This will be an up charge restaurant with seating featuring outstanding barbecue and will house the brewery. Another new dining venue will be the Teppanyaki Restaurant bringing this style of dining to the high seas. For activities, they have furthered their relationship with Dr. Seuss with a themed Water Works water park after Cat and the Hat. There will be Thing One and Two and other themed slides. Of course you will find the other activities on board found on Carnival Vista, like the Sports Square, SkyRide, Ropes Course and more. One interesting off the wall thing I saw while watching a video of the ship was about the elevators. Elevators are always a point of contention on a cruise. I don’t wait for them myself but others do. I just take the stairs. Anyway, they will be different on the Horizon. You will press a button in the elevator lobby like you always do but then you will choose the floor on a screen above it. Then it will show you the elevator that you will take and that elevator will take you direct to the desired floor. Non Stop. Now that is cool.
Where is Horizon going?
As I mentioned above, the Horizon will begin its days at sea with a roundtrip 13 day itinerary through southern Europe ports in Croatia and Italy. Then it will sail 7 day and longer itineraries through April. Then starting in May, the Horizon will complete a Trans-Atlantic Crossing from Barcelona to New York where she will spend the Summer sailing the Eastern Caribbean with a few short Bermuda sailings thrown in. In September, the Horizon will take the place of Vista in Miami and will alternate between 6 Day Western and 8 Day Southern Caribbean itineraries currently available on the Vista. As a side note, the Carnival Vista will be repositioned to Galveston where she will sail Western Caribbean itineraries. I have a passion for travel and believe travel is about experiences. Experiences create memories and are the stories we tell to friends and family - even with a little fudging on the facts.
