This past Saturday I had the opportunity to take a tour of the Carnival Magic in Port Canaveral. My review will be somewhat abbreviated since this was not a sailing just a tour but I think it will be helpful. First off, the basics. The Magic sails 7 Night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries out of Port Canaveral. She is 130,000 Gross Tons and holds 3500 Passengers with double occupancy. Food As I said this was a short tour but I had the chance to have lunch in the main dining room. Now I am not a foodie but I know what’s good. The appetizer was some kind of duck dish that was cold (on purpose) but was good. I had a penne Pasta and then the entrée I chose was the prime rib. I would say maybe there was a little too much fat on the prime rib but the flavor was wonderful. For dessert, it was an apple cheesecake which I had never tried. To be honest, my dessert choice on Carnival is usually the chocolate melting cake. But I really liked it. Not too heavy but lots of flavor. Now I really wanted to get a burger from Guys Burger but the line was too long so I chose to eat in the dining room with the group. I viewed some of the other dining options on board like the new Guys Pig and Anchor Barbeque and it looked and smelled great. Also, Cucina del Capitano an Italian Restaurant and the Prime Steakhouse. Capitano and Prime are upcharge restaurants but the cost is minimal. Other dining options included Tandor, which I think is Indian and the Blue Iguana Cantina. Activities There are so many activities available on board the Magic you will not get bored, unless you just want to be. The Water Works water park is huge and is would be fun for all ages with slides and water drops. Along the lines of staying cool, there are multiple pools including the Beach Pool on Lido Deck and the Tides Pool on the aft of the ship. As hot as it was. I was ready to jump into that inviting water jeans and all. Up on Deck 12 Spa Deck you will find the Sports Court. Here you will find the miniature golf course, pool and ping pong tables and cornhole. Plus towards the back of the ship, is a full basketball court used for basketball, volleyball and soccer. On the deck above, is where the 2nd level of the miniature golf course is located as well as the Ropes Course. You can strap in a follow a course several feet above the ocean. One of the things I noticed on this ship is the amount of seating available. There are chairs all over the outside areas including a true promenade deck that runs the complete length of the ship on Deck 5. On the interior of the ship, there loads of activities and plenty of entertainment options., From the atrium to the show lounge and throughout the promenade deck, you will find entertainment including shows and live bands. Your FUN TIMES will have all the activities where they are and what time. So, enjoy a spa treatment in the Cloud 9 Spa, catch a Playlist Productions show in the Showtime Lounge, sing along to classic tunes at the Play It Again Piano Bar and so much more Staterooms The Magic has a wide variety of choices of cabins with about 85% of the ocean views having balconies. Of course, there are the standard Interior, Ocean View and Balcony staterooms but with this ship you get a few more options. The premium ocean views are made for families featuring the double bathroom. In one bathroom, you have a sink and toilet. In the other you have a sink and shower. This allows multiple people to get ready at one time. For balconies, you have a new option for Carnival called a Cove Balcony. These are all located on deck 2 and feature a balcony built into the hull. Its partially enclosed but you still have the openness of a balcony. In the aft of the ship, there are 2 more balcony cabins types. One, an extended balcony which has a wider balcony extending out over the back of the ship and the wrap around balcony. The wrap around balcony is located on the corner and you guessed it, wraps around the side of the ship. These of course are larger balconies and provide ample space for lounging. If you book far enough in advance, a group could reserve all the extended balcony cabins and the wrap arounds allowing you to open the dividers and have one very large deck for your group to hang out. I really liked this ship and can’t wait to hopefully sail on it soon. I have a passion for travel and believe travel is about experiences. Experiences create memories and are the stories we tell to friends and family - even with a little fudging on the facts.
