In the news this week, Canada opens back up, Carnival raises prices and Royal Caribbean announces the name of a new ship.
Return to Canada
This week marked the return to Canada after two years. As most know the Alaska season along with all cruising was cancelled in 2020 and was reduced greatly in 2021. Well, 2022 the full Alaska season is back. Holland Americas Koningsdam marked the return to Canada arriving in Victoria BC and then to Vancouver where she will sail Alaska Itineraries. She will be joined by ships from Royal Caribbean, Carnival, NCL, Princess, Cunard and others. I would venture to say cruising is back.
Gratuities will go from $13.99 to $14.50 per day per guest and for suites from $15.99 to $16.50 per day per guest.
The CHEERS Package which is the drink package including alcoholic drinks will go from $51.95 to $59.95 per guest per day when purchased prior to the voyage. Purchased on board, will go from $56.95 to $64.95 per guest per day. This is probably the biggest increase of all the increases.
The Bottomless Bubbles Soda Package will go from $5.95 to $6.95 per guest per day for children and from $8.50 to $9.50 for adults.
Specialty dining saw some slight increases as well but to me is still a great value.
555 Steakhouse went from $38pp to $42pp
Both Cucina Del Capitano and JiJis Asian went from $15pp t $18pp
Bonsai Teppanyaki went from $32pp to $38pp.
You can pay the current price by pre paying your gratuities on your cruise reservation and purchasing packages prior to May 1. After that date, new pricing will apply.
Royal Caribbean Names its 6th Oasis Class Ship
Royal Caribbean created a class of ship that really rivals no other in the Oasis Class. Each ship is just a little bigger and has more features. This week they named and had the steel cutting ceremony for the sixth Oasis Class ship named Utopia of the Seas. She is expected to set sail in May 2024 but no itineraries nor homeport has been announced as of yet. A new class of ship, Icon of the Seas is now under construction and wil debut in Fall of 2023.
