This week hurricane Ian, new protocols on Disney and Carnival Celebration has a her Godmother.
Cruise Lines Make Adjustments With Hurricane Ian
An unfortunate consequence of cruising during hurricane season is itineraries can be changed. While rare, it does happen. This week three cruise ports were closed in Florida including Port Canaveral, Jacksonville and Tampa. This weeks sailings did get out but most will return a day or two late. The Carnival Elation will return to Jacksonville when the port opens so in turn, the sailing on September 29th was cancelled. Ships from Port Canaveral will return when the port has reopened which is expected later this afternoon. Carnival Liberty as well as Royal Caribbean's Mariner and Independence of the Seas will return on Saturday. While the Carnival Liberty sailing on September 30 was cancelled, the Royal Caribbean ships will sail a modified itinerary beginning on Saturday returning as scheduled. The Carnival Freedom and Mardi Gras will sail as scheduled. The Port of Tampa remains closed but the Carnival Paradise is scheduled to arrive back in Tampa on Saturday. Of course the sailing on September 29 was cancelled. As with any of these situations, please check with your cruise line for the latest information and updates.
Carnival Celebration Gets a Godmother
This week Carnival Cruise Line announced Cassidy Gifford will be the Godmother of the brand new Carnival Celebration debuting later this year. Cassidy is the daughter of Kathie Lee Gifford who was the Godmother of the first Carnival Celebration in the 1980s. Go check out the old commercials on YouTube. Carnival Celebration will debut in November 2022 and will be the second in the Excel Class ships sister of the Mardi Gras. Celebration will feature the Fun Zones like on Mardi Gras with a few differences like 820 Biscayne with a Miami theme located where the Piazza is on Mardi Gras. And since Carnival is celebrating 50 years this year, you will see a lot of Carnival history especially in The Golden Jubilee Bar. Celebration will sail 7 Night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami.
Disney Cruise Line Updates Health Protocols
Beginning on October 1, 2022, passengers on Disney wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will not be required to be vaccinated for COVID 19 to sail. Beginning on November 7, 2022 passengers on Disney Magic will not be required to be vaccinated. As with the other cruise lines, Disney will require those who are ages 5 years and up and not vaccinated to provide proof of a negative COVID 19 test taken no more than two days prior to sailing. Those who are vaccinated will upload your vaccine card to the app prior to sailing. Michael Miller
