Princess Cruise Line has has created a technology that will change the way we cruise. With Medallion Class, you will experience more personalized service, hands free purchases and more.
It begins with being Ocean Ready by downloading the Ocean Ready App on your phone or tablet. Here you will upload travel documents like your passport, take a picture for your profile and order your Medallions. First, you must complete your online check in and then you are ready for the app.
This will make for a more expedited check in and get you on the ship faster. The great part is, once you have this app, it will do so much while on board and no need to pay for WIFI to operate it. The Medallion will either be sent to your home 7-21 days prior to sailing or you can pick it up at the terminal when you arrive. You can purchase accessories so you can wear the medallion either on a bracelet, neckless or a wristband. I believe you can even attach it to a lanyard.
What does the Medallion do?
The medallion will allow you hands free activity while on board. How many times have you arrived at your cabin and your hands are full? You have to set everything down and use your card to unlock your door. Well, as you approach the door, the sensor will pick up the Medallion and unlock it for you. With the medallion, you make purchases at the bar or in the git shops simply by waving your it across the sensor. This allows someone to wring you up really anywhere in the tore.
What can you do with the OceanNow App?
The medallion will allow you hands free activity while on With the Ocean Now App combined with the Medallion, you can now place orders on the ship from anywhere. Having a nice relaxing time on deck and want a drink, order it on the app and the crew member will find you. Drinks, food to your chair or even your cabin. You can find activities, maps of the ship and opening and closing times of venues throughout the ship. 
Medallion Class is also about more technology. Ocean Compass are touch screens located around the ship that allows you to find your way to your next activity. And how many times have you walked the shup looking for a family member and can't find them? Well, with Ocean Compass, you will be able to locate those traveling with you because of the Medallion.
WIFI has also been upgraded with MedallionNet providing land like WIFI allowing you to stream movies, sports and more. You will need to purchase the WIFI package for this service.

The ships built with this technology were the Sky, Enchanted and soon the Discovery Princess. Princess has been working to make it fleet wide and my understanding, they may be using this pause in cruising to complete that process.
