Often I hear people say they will get board on a cruise out in the middle of the ocean. Well, that cannot be further from the truth. Whether you want to stay active or just relax, you will find it on a sea day. One of my favorite parts of a cruise is the sea day so lets look at what you can do.
1 Trivia
On almost any ship or line you sail on, you will have your choice of trivia games. Whether its sports, Harry Potter or music trivia, you will have a great time. And why not try to win a price. My favorite has been Trivial Pursuit on Carnival. 2 Eat On one of my cruises a few years ago I was on with my best friend. We decided to make a goal to each as much as possible on the last sea day. By dinner we were hurting but we did eat a lot. Usually everything is open on sea day so your variety of options will be wide ranging. Grab a burger by the pool, a snack at the buffet or try tea time in the dining room.
3 Casino
As long as you are at sea, the casino is open and ready for your donations. The casinos are loaded with slot machines, gaming tables like Blackjack, Roulette and Poker. Of course, play responsibly. 4 Water Fun Is it hot and you just want to cool off and have some fun, well the cruise lines have gone all out to make that happen. Every ship has a pool and some of the new ones have three or four. You will find water parks with slides for the adults and for the kids plus splash pads for the kids. Unique to Royal Caribbean is the FlowRider surf simulator where you can boogie board or surf. 5 Sports and More So many of the ships have added sports related activities so you can stay active. Basketball courts often are used for basketball, volleyball and now pickleball. Royal Caribbean has on almost every ship in the fleet a rock climbing wall that is great for adults and kids. Cruise lines like Carnival and NCL have added ropes courses allowing you to test your agility and your fear of heights. Plus so much more like miniature golf courses and virtual driving ranges.
6 Visit the Spa
Maybe you want to pamper yourself. Almost every cruise ship will have a spa and offer a long menu of services. Whether it’s a hot rock massage, facial, teeth whitening or getting your hair done, you will find something for you. A lot of the new ships offer Thermal Suites offering heated stone beds, aroma steam rooms and saunas. Ships like the brand new Prima from NCL offer salt and ice rooms plus infrared saunas. 7 Relax If you want, do nothing, hang out on your balcony, by the pool or even find a quiet venue where not much is happening. Most ships will offer an adults only area where you can get away from the kids and the activities. Grab a book, take a nap or just people watch. Take advantage of one or all these options. The great part of a cruise is its your vacation so you get to choose what you want to do. Michael Miller
