Today’s travel tip focuses on summer vacation and your family road trip. Yup, it’s that time of year again when you pack up the car with the family and head to see relatives, to a theme park or a beach destination.
There is so much to do and its inevitable you will forget something like the cooler sitting on the roof of the car. Avoid this by making a list. I find making a list as I plan my vacation makes my departure day that much easier.
With Google and GPS it becomes very easy to plan your stops. Make hotel reservations ahead of time by calling your travel agent, ME. This will avoid searching for a room when you are tired and you just want to sleep.
Make sure before you leave, get scheduled maintenance done and systems checked on the family truckster (line stolen from the movie Vacation) before you leave. Don’t wait until the day before because that is when things go wrong.
For your destination, make reservations and get attraction tickets prior to leaving. The more planning you do now, the less time you have to spend in line when you are finally on vacation. I can assist with most resorts and provide options for attractions.
Make it a family vacation. Make sure to carve out time when the phones, ipads and other devices are put away and enjoy time together. You will have plenty of time to scroll mindlessly through Facebook.
Last but no least, make sure to pack your patience. It’s summer and everyone is trying to get that vacation in before the kids head back to school so the roads, parks, stores etc. will be crowded. I can assure you if you know what to expect, you will enjoy your vacation that much more.

I have a passion for travel and believe travel is about experiences. Experiences create memories and are the stories we tell to friends and family - even with a little fudging on the facts.
