Travel makes you a storyteller. While I worked for Old Town Trolley in St Augustine the word storyteller was used a lot. Primarily the stories of the history of St Augustine whether it be Ponce de Leon, Menendez, Henry Flagler or about the Castillo, story’s drew a picture.
When we travel we gain experiences with destinations and people. Whether it be landing in a helicopter on a glacier in Alaska, going to the top of the Eifel Tower or driving through the redwoods in California, it’s all an experience. We meet people when we travel like the funny cab driver who took you downtown from your ship in Cozumel, the waiter who did magic tricks for your family every night at dinner or just simply the friends you make while taking a tour.
At that point you are back with friends and family, are you telling them about your day you spent sitting in your cubicle? No, these are the stories you will share. Some will be told over and over and over again and some will change to be exaggerated but without that experience, you would not have that story.
So, make life about travel and seeing other destinations. Remember you work to live, not live to work.
